Spinning Hologram – LED Design

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

When thinking of holograms, we think back to our first introduction which was with Star Wars and how they depicted Princess Leia in the hologram image to Luke Skywalker. Many of the audiences were thrilled and entertained by the thought of being able to see someone in 4D and being able to communicate with them on that level. Even since the film debuted in 1977, in 2018, we still do not have the technology to the point that it is common use or made low cost enough to replace conventional smartphones and other communicative technologies. Well that’s how things used to be. Now the new trend which is getting people to throw away their TV set is using a “Spinning LED Hologram”.

Holographic imagery was first developed by a Hungarian-British physicist named Dennis Gabor who won the Nobel Prize in 1971.  Holograms are conventionally developed through lasers which split in two by special lens.  One beam is used to focus directly to the display area.  The other beam is used to display the object and the other beam is used to make a direct replica of the image on top of the

Hologram models in the past utilized many cameras, a large space, and cost thousands of dollars in order to create an image remotely close to being 4D.  These large designs remind many of us how the modern day computer used to be. The modern computer used to take up a whole for the Central Processing Unit or CPU as we call it these days. Just as everything has to evolve, so does the technology.  For that reason, holographic technology has evolved to now being hand-held through a variety of devices.  One of the growing in popularity devices is the “spinning LED hologram”.  Many manufacturers have jumped to the charge and have created their own version of the “spinning LED hologram” which are currently on sale for consumers to purchase.

The key behind the technology is an LED strip which forces the human POV (Point of View) to create an optical illusion. This illusion makes the human eye to feel as if it is seeing a holographic image. The strip of LED spins at a rapid pace and flashing LEDs at a high rate of speed is the source behind the illusion. This technology was displayed at a CES (consumer Electronics Show), Kino-mo showed off their Hypervsn which flag-ships this technology. The LED strip can plug into any regular/standard outlet and once it gains enough speed our eyes perceive the 3D images as floating above the display in 4D.

The produces shimmering of the 3D images and the device uses a wireless connection where users can manipulate the images to make it seem like a constantly changing holographic show.  There are several different applications for the technology from replacing televisions to practical applications such as teaching tools and for business. Currently the company which has pioneered the technology, Kino-Mo, is currently focused mainly on retail and business applications. Examples of business applications are displays for stores, billboards that come alive, and kiosks. The same as which a hologram would do, however, in reality, even though the eye may perceive this as a hologram, it is just a matter of tricking the senses.

Artificial Embryos – Gateway To Human Cloning!

Saturday, March 24th, 2018

As the world gears and braces for the inevitable impacts of Artificial Intelligence, Robots, and full automation, many are left with questions. Some people are worried about jobs as they diminish, and automation increases, there are concerns over where the job market will be headed. It’s amazing to grasp that just a few years ago, the computer, the internet, and the whole concept of technology took a foothold in society. Right now, because of the uprising, many jobs have literally disappeared and other once never thought of jobs now exist. The truth is that life and society change every day. The key that all of us need to understand is that for us to not get left behind, then we must learn, adapt, and change. We are either the ones changing the world, or the world will change us. Many fear that the combination of machine learning and artificial intelligence will spawn a new race of robots which will have their own version of right or wrong. However, the one discovery which has managed to go below the radars is very significant, even more so than AI, is the creation of “Artificial Embryos”.

In case you took a breather and did a recheck of what was said in the last paragraph, you are correct in what you read. An embryo is what cells combine to form and what houses the beginnings of life. We all as mammals start out as embryos after fertilization takes place. The embryo develops the cells which in turn have their own DNA sequence that multiply and divide, then manifest into different parts of the body which determine sex, hair color, arm length, bone structure, and all the characteristics of an offspring.  All of this comes from an embryo.  There are constant studies and new developments as scientists do research on this mysterious, yet crucial part of life.  Yue Shao, whom has a background in Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering made an astounding discovery during this research and experimentation that has profound possibilities in the world of biology.

Yue Shao has been experimenting with stem cells and scaffolds of soft gel to determine replication of neural tissue. By pure accident and experimentation, Dr. Shao stumbled upon more than was bargained for.  The cells in the gel began to change and rapidly arrange at rate that was astounding. They began to form a lopsided circle.  In comparison, the embryo that Dr. Shao created was very much aligned with the same type of embryo which was in the uterine wall and starting to form the amniotic sac. The human embryo and the embryo that Dr. Shao was working on was identical.  The possibilities of this developing into a human required the Dr. to reach out to other groups to determine what to do with the embryo.

After more research and development, the team determined that the embryo would not fully develop into a human being because it did not have the cells required to form major organs such as a brain, heart, or placenta.  However, even though the “embryoids” lacked the required cells, because of their indistinguishable likeness to that of human embryos, the team has been destroying the embryos in formaldehyde and detergent. The ethical repercussions of the embryo going full term and what would come out of that development is too much of a risk to bring to light currently.  This does not stop Pandora’s box which has already been opened to push other researchers to now want to create a full human embryo. One particular group in Cambridge, U.K., has since developed a very convincing 6 day old mouse embryo and are now pushing the limits to create a human embryo.

Many may ask and wonder if the goal is to replicate human beings or to develop another race. For now researchers are limiting the research to focus on combining different stem cells to create bits of lung, intestine, and brain cells to make tissue.  By the discovery of Dr. Shao, the race is now in place and the torch has been lit for the group to first develop an actual human embryo.  A research group in Rockefeller University out of New York has joined the race and they are dubbing the new technology to be called “synthetic embryology”.

This breakthrough is biologist have been searching for as previous attempts at creating an embryo resulted in embryos only growing up to a week before diminishing.  The new discovery was growing at such a rapid rate that superseded previous attempts that the team with Dr. Shao had to terminate the process because they had no concept of what the embryo would have developed into.   Up until now much of the events that take place during the development of a human from the embryo stage is still a mystery.  Human cloning and creating replicas of a person are all on the table with this epic discovery. Now the possibilities of unlocking the process beyond the failed attempts are currently on the table due to Dr. Shao.

To take this to another level, the possibilities of creating real skin, human organs and human traits would take an android to another level of advancements towards being more like human beings. With the advancements of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and now stem research, the possibilities are now endless. Where we will go with these advancements as we open doors, we will have to see the direction that we allow the technology to lead us.  Infusing technology and biology is a conception which has been brought to light many years ago from the introduction of the computer.  With the influx of data being readily available and the communication expansions that have connected us all allows for these developments to surge and expand. The more questions that we ask is the more technology responds with answers and advancements. IT GURUS OF ATLANTA prides ourselves as leaders in the technology space and will keep providing updates in this arena.

Step Aside Amazon Alexa and Google Home, here is Microsoft’s “Invoke”!

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017

Amazon started the trend of voice assistants built into a speaker that has taken flight and given the market a new meaning to voice activated shopping, music, event planning, and more. Amazon originally put this technology in the Amazon Echo in 2015 and three years later, they have developed the technology into Alexa, which is a much larger speaker plus added a lot more features. Alexa has the ability to work with other apps including integrate with Smart home devices via some nifty integrated application features.

Since Amazon’s introduction of Echo and Alexa, the competition market has picked up by other large companies such as Google which has come out with Google Home to compete against the rise in Amazon’s Alexa and Echo. Since the launch of Google Home in 2016, it has managed to grab a large part of the market by enabling many of the same Amazon features, but with the Google app store integration and Google Assistant. These two large competitors have managed to dominate the voice assistant market since its launch by Amazon a few years ago.

There is a new competitor on the market that has taken notes from the defects and short comings of Amazon and Google, to come out with a more optimal device. Microsoft has stepped into the market and pledges to have more features, more integration, and less defects than the current line of Amazon Echo and Alexa. It promises to be more reliable than the current Google Home. Microsoft’s version of the voice assistant is dubbed “Invoke”. Invoke is built by Harmon Kardon and packs a huge plethora of Microsoft technology under the belt.

Invoke will be powered by Cortana as the voice assistant with a cylinder shape similar to that of Amazon’s Alexa. Microsoft services will be integrated such as Skype for business to make voice calls at a mere command or accept and announce them with stereo sound throughout the room.  Cortana will have the latest features such as keeping up with calendars, meetings, reading emails, and ordering from the Microsoft app store.  Bing will be utilized as the search agent of choice as this is a Microsoft flagship product, it will have the bells and whistles of Microsoft’s major product integrations making it easy to transition from voice to pc and more.

With this device being made available to the public in the Fall of 2017, Microsoft is said to have a “killer feature” that is said to change the game in the voice assistant industry. Google and Amazon are on edge to find out what this new feature is that Microsoft is to unveil with their new flag ship for technology. Microsoft is gearing up to push for this device to its 145 million Windows 10 Cortana base to in an attempt to offset the Amazon and Google market. However, with Invoke not scheduled to be revealed until Fall of 2017, Google and Amazon have time to instill many upgrades in anticipation of this new adversary on the market.
