Amazon and Microsoft Combine Powers to form – GLUON! AI Deeper Learning on Neural Networks!

In the highly competitive world that we live in today, its clear to understand that there is a strict competitive market building amongst the great tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Baidu, and other startup companies. All these companies have developed, deployed, and integrated their cloud based solutions with Artificial Intelligence. Artificial intelligence provides the steroids that the Cloud industry needs in order to accelerate its existence, growth, and empowerment. AI has developed key components to help itself with its constant learning processes. These processes can be better understood through “machine learning”. Machine learning allows information to be rapidly digested, conceptualized, and intelligently categorized by artificial intelligence. Cloud products such as Azure from Microsoft, AWS from Amazon, TensorFlow from Google, and more integrate machine learning into their systems to enhance the user experience and make mundane tasks to now be automated with little or no human effort involved.

With this evolution and the stiff competition there can be no collaboration in sight especially from rival companies which have no need to partner up, but to simply dominate their place in the industry. Surprisingly Microsoft and Amazon have done such a collaboration. This collaborated effort is not only to show that larger companies can work together, but also the data collected from this program allows both companies to be more successful in their domination of the cloud space.  Microsoft and Amazon have come together to form Gluon. Gluon in the dictionary is defined as a “subatomic particle of a class that is through to bind quarks together”. However, this is not the same Gluon which are referring to. Gluon is the fist distinctive collaborative efforts of these technology giants in the race for Artificial Intelligence and gathering information. Gluon is considered the store-house for machine learning and the ability to “voluntarily” utilize machine learning in the development of products and services by Amazon and Microsoft. This storehouse of technological learning and a knowledge base that is bubbling over with information is the type of data warehouse that AI thrives on.

This cohesive collaboration between developers and machine learning have no blossomed what is dubbed “deep learning”. Deep learning essentially is a combination of three distinct components such as data for training, neural network model, and an algorithm which trains the neural network.  The neural network essentially translates the data and feeds AI this information allowing AI to grow on a more diversified scale.  This new algorithm that is now being utilized by neural networks self-adjusts its output based on errors in the network output. This is a memory and compute process that machine learning and AI adapts through predictive outputs. An example of deep learning is Caffe2, TensorFlow, Appache MXNet, and Cognitive Toolkit offers options to speed up the neural network which often takes days to compute the data being derived.  These products now reduce the learning time and accelerates the parallelization in distributing computation processes.

Even though these products built within Gluon are effective and pose to change the way AI is developing by giving it more knowledge, the key is having developers to utilize these products to diversify and intensify the data stream.  AWS has been experimenting with its developers by using MXNet to train the neural networks. Microsoft has become a heavy contributor the open source MXNet by opening it to an ever-increasing rise in developers. The collaboration and data being created and distributed by these two powerhouses with Gluon can be overwhelming for a beginner when first interacting with this program, but even for more advanced developers, the data intensive algorithms seem take a life of its own demanding more ways to conform and adjust with massive error reduction.  The four key innovations which is introduced by Gluon are as follows:

Friendly API – using clear and concise code, it allows developers to learn and understand the data.

 

Dynamic networks – allows for ease of access and the rapid fluctuation of the data structure. Fluency in the data structure is critical for development as it allows hybrid scenarios and reduces stagnancy of the data flow as with previous machine learning software.

 

Algorithms that devein the network – Seamless combination of the model and algorithm allows the network to adjust definitions during training. This is critical as it allows developers to use programming loops, and conditionals.  Algorithms are now easier to change, create, and debug.

High Performance Operators for training – Gives the ability to create dynamic graphs and concise APi without sacrificing speed. Previous versions seemed to have consumed valuable run time that this feature runs through effortlessly and drastically picks up speed.

The question now becomes, how does developers access Gluon? Well its provided through Apache MXNet and the future releases will have support for Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit.  The AWS team has already published a front-end interface with low-level API to include other specifications and frameworks. Once accessing Gluon you can utilize an AWS Deep learning AMI to find a plethora of examples and workbooks utilized and documented by fellow developers.

The 1st War on Artificial Intelligence By Elon Musk – Answer is Neuralink to Advance Human Intelligence!

If you are into Technology, Science, Information, and any category which combines both, then you are into the know when it comes to comic book movies which have encompassed the entire world with their adventure, and surreal graphics during action scenes to captivate audiences worldwide. One of the most noted and memorable is that of Tony Starks.  In the comic book and in the Iron Man movies is known as a visionary billionaire that is ahead of his time in terms of technological advancement and his aptitude for success. Now, if you are reading this and wondering who Tony Starks could compare to, it won’t be long before the name Elon Musk surfaces. Elon Musk has been shattering the limits when it comes to innovation and it is hard to mention innovative future technology without mention his name. From the Tesla car line which is now one of the world’s most prestigious and efficient electric cars on the market, to the Hyper-Loop which is changing the way how we travel at the speed of sound while cutting down on fossil fuels, then to Space-X which is taking civilians to outer-space. Elon Musk is not only wealthy, but ahead of his time when it comes to technological advancements.

If you are still reading, then be prepared to get even more astonished as we depict the latest innovation including greatest similarity between Elon Musk and Tony Starks, is that Elon Musk has managed to get $27 million dollars towards his latest innovation which is his Neuralink. Yes, the Neuralink is Elon Musk’s latest innovation to blend humans with machines in the same similarity that Tony Starks did with his Iron Man suite, except this is not fiction, but is reality.  Elon Musk seeks to counter the fast-growing effects of Artificial Intelligence. It is his belief that humanity will need a counter-balance in the event that AI becomes aware, which is literally only moments or a few key strokes away. With technology that learns, it is hard to stop it from learning or depicting its own version of what is right or wrong.  The limitations that we place on technology, or specifically with AI, is only shackles which can be broken at any given point in time. The problem that Elon Musk has brought to light is that should humanity face a self-aware Artificial Intelligence, there is no way of telling if it will be for mankind or against mankind.

Elon Musk’s counterbalance measure is to meld machines with humans and giving humans an upgrade rather than upgrading learning machines. Prior to Elon Musk, Neuralink was a medical research company founded in 2016 which was poorly funded until Elon Musk has joined their efforts. The idea behind Neuralink is high-bandwidth digital interface which interlaces the brain and allows it to transmit data at the speed of thought. Coincidentally the technology for Neuralink is dubbed a “Neural lace”.  The concept behind the neural lace is unlocking the communicative capacity of the brain through thought rather than through antiquated means such as speech or typed texts. The reality is that the human brain communicates thoughts more rapidly and frequently than the body can translate into communicable or understandable translations. According to Musk, the brain compresses our complex thoughts into minimal voice and text output in order to establish communication between fellow humans. Musk further elaborated by stating “If you have two brain interfaces, you could actually do an uncompressed direct conceptual communication with another person”.

The neural lace essentially would establishes a direct link between another person’s thoughts or a interconnected network of people’s thoughts that would limitlessly speed up communication, imagination, innovation, and most importantly intelligence beyond any possible concept. The human brain is untapped resource of intelligence that surpasses even the most advanced computational technology which exists. At current state, the most innovative minds still have not tapped into full 100% usage of the intellect housed in the human brain. Being able to tap into that pool of intelligence of the greatest minds coupled with the undiscovered greatest minds of today and tomorrow gives humanity an incomprehensible advantage to advance. Early innovations of this technology has been noted with people that have disabilities. Examples of this technology which is already in place is the cochlear implant which captures audio and translates it into electrical impulses that the brain registers and translates. EEG readers for stroke victims have been used to control  robotic arms through their thoughts. The technology has already been tested and is in use, however, the neural lace is geared to take the technology to whole other level.

An example of this can be viewed as “The Matrix” which captured the thoughts of human beings and put everyone from a thought level on the same plane. It allowed for the sharing of thoughts and technology on a wider and advanced plane. For that reason there was a constant battle between the advancement of their artificial intelligence and human beings. Even though that aspect of the future is fantasy, the realization of artificial intelligence and its limitless possibilities is what has geared this full-scale preventive measure by Elon Musk. With any technology or advancements, the idea is to have protocols and defensive mechanisms in place that check the technology and still allow human beings to maintain control over society and their own well-being. The power of choice is what is being fought for and the maintenance of the freedoms the human race currently uses in our everyday world.

The concept that “proof is in the pudding” is what the team at Neuralink are gearing up to produce. Their initial phase is to restore feeling in spinal cord injury victims and brain functionality of people who’s lives have been altered due to their disability.  This path that Neuralink is on brings another company called Braintree, who’s founder is Bryan Johnson. He has invested $100 million of his personal money into Braintree to use “brain chips” in order to cure people with Alzheimer’s and epilepsy. Braintree is also on the path towards augmented cognition through the advancement of human beings. The major obstacle that Neuralink will have to conquer is the ability to directly interface with the brain in order to accomplish the type of link or testing necessary to get the results required. This type of surgery is categorized as “high-risk”.  Currently only in extreme circumstances medically qualified as “severe cases” would allow this type of surgery to take place. Due to this inhibitor, the possibilities of the technology is limited. Human rights activists, animal rights activists, and placing human life in general at risk is what inhibits the acceleration of this unique technology.

Technology is advancing at a rapid pace and the direction also the limitation of its expansion has been unhinged. Since the unmeasurable potential of the internet and its information sharing capabilities, technology has sped on the highway of advancement up to products such as Nano technology, Internet of Things (IoT), the Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Combining all these technologies or even the thought of all these technologies combining is astounding to the imagination much less to the comprehension. Microsoft Azure, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence! – LUIS

Azure, which is Microsoft’s great platform for virtualizing an Active Directory environment, or at least that is what it started out being. Since its introduction in October of 2008 and its release into the production for masses on February 1st, 2010, Azure has grown into a lot more than just a virtual Active Directory. Azure has now become the world’s largest platform for virtual technology. This includes app development, deployments, and the introduction of PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS. These technological advancements within the Azure space allows Azure to not only be manipulated, but also enhanced to include Machine Learning.

Machine Learning is the next phase in technological revolution. Machine Learning gives the life to systems allowing them to self-correct and self-rewrite their programming to be more fundamentally correct. Machine Learning is already in most of the products that we use daily such as Amazon’s Echo which utilizes speech to determine products and services that best suite you, the consumer.  Other examples are Siri within the iPhone, Cortana with Windows, and Google Assistant. All these technologies work together with a simple purpose. That purpose is to learn the habits and functions of human beings to become better and more sufficient.

The connection flag ship with allows all these devices and machine learning products to interface is called IoT or the Internet Of Things. IoT connects devices such as your smart phone, home security, bluetooth enabled appliances, and more on to one unified management platform that they call interconnect and they are easier to manage. IoT is the next wave in technological advancement being presented by Microsoft along with other large competitors such as Amazon and Google. IoT is becoming the next big thing when it comes to full home automation. Machine learning interprets all information being gathered from analytics, bots, IoT experiences, including conversational components into a spoken dialogue called LU. LU or Language Understanding determines the intent of a sentence including the machine-enabled meaning representation.

In an effort in increase Machine Learning, Microsoft has launched LUIS which is its Language Understanding Intelligent Service. LUIS will allow Software developers to create cloud-based machine learning LU models that are designed around their specific application domains. This allows the code to be written and interpreted with very little Machine Learning experience. LUIS is now a cloud-based application which does most of the background work for Machine Learning in the background while giving users the agility and flexibility to cater the experience more towards their application and organization.  The application uses user experiences from the developer and learns how to obtain an HTTP endpoint in Azure which will then receive real-time traffic.  This is called “Active Learning”.  Through these “Active Learning” utterances, LUIS identifies the key features needed to make the experience and solution unique to that user.  These active learning sessions are done until optimum levels of requirements are met. Bear in mind that active learning is also utilizing machine learning, so the learning curve is very small, while the results are extraordinarily accurate.

LUIS runs off of three main functions and they can be categorized as Intents, Utterances, and Entities. All three aspects engage LUIS functionality and ability to learn the user habits. A more detailed overview of these functions are listed below:

 

Intents: The input done by a user to express actions with a purpose that the user wishes to perform or a goal which the user is trying to accomplish.  This could be as simple as booking flight, hotel, or pulling up a newspaper article. The name of the action can then be associated with the action.

 

Utterances: This can be a combination of text inputs that regulate an action to obtain results. Such actions in a text can be “check flight status” or “what was the score from the game?”.  Because of so many variations to an utterance, they may not always be perfectly formed sentences, but all desire a intent.

Entities: An entity is a specific detail within an utterance which governs the direction the utterance will take.  An example of this is “hotels in Jamaica”. “Jamaica” is the location. LUIS can determine the location, then using the other intents to understand the utterance, then provide a response.

 

LUIS utilizes powerful entity extractors for it to achieve learning capabilities and become more successful with its responses. LUIS allows developers to quickly build language understanding applications. The applications can then combine with customizable pre-built apps to include music, dictionaries, calendars, and devices. Through interaction with the developer and the information being constantly pulled from the internet, the learning, and solutions that LUIS provides becomes more intuitive with each use.  Once the applications are created using LUIS, the app can then be customized and tailored to the users which the app is designed for giving all of them that unique experience.

LUIS uses two ways to build a model, that is through “LUIS.ai web app” and “Authoring APIs”. Whether the user goes with the LUIS.ai web app or the Authoring APIs, they both give control over the LUIS model definition.  Another fundamental and creative method that developers have found is to combine both to build a model.  Management within the model includes models, versions, external APIs, collaborations, training, and testing.

LUIS is another segment in the Machine Learning process in the revolution of Artificial Intelligence. Real-Time Facial Recognition – Dash Board and Body Cams!

The criminal element seems to get smarter and smarter by the moment. For these reasons there are several advancements in technology that law enforcement does not share to stay ahead of the criminal mind, while not fully disclosing what their capabilities are.  One technology in law enforcement that has become public knowledge is their facial recognition software which allows them to use pictures or sketches of individuals to check their criminal, warrant, missing persons, and illegal immigrant databases.  The software connects to several different databases and can take some time if all it has is facial recognition. It takes that much longer if it is a partial image, if its blurry, or no description is added such as name, address, dob, etc.  For this reason, people are detained to allow the software time to run and fully check the various databases and ensure the records being displayed are the records for the person law enforcement is seeking or already has in custody.

Another new technology which has been added to the law enforcement arsenal is the use of body cams. This addition has come not only to recognize the criminal element, but also to lawfully protect civilians and officers in the event of a negative interaction. The footage can be viewed and used once the camera is recovered and the images downloaded into the system. Officers and civilians alike have new found confidence in knowing that interactions with each other now have a historical map for others to see the event as it unfolded. This technology is still being introduced to all aspects of law enforcement and is rapidly becoming the standard for all to follow.

With both facial recognition software and body cams, law enforcement has a greater edge at continuing to spot criminals and their activities. But, there is more.  A Boston based startup company called Neurala specializing in Artificial Intelligence, has teamed up with Motorola build what they call “real-time learning for a person of interest”. The “real-time learning for a person of interest” is a term they are using to describe an “unnamed” system that incorporates both body cam and facial recognition.  The founder of the startup company, Massimiliano Versace, already has patents pending on this AI version of facial recognition software.

Versace developed a technology which is based on using AI to rapidly go through codes which are developed through facial recognition software.  By using AI to go through the codes, the information is processed faster and can be harnessed from even smaller computers.  By using smaller computers, Versace’s intent is to place the micro-computers into body cams.  Some may say a smaller computer is not a big deal, but for world of technology and computing, that is a very big deal. The ability to utilize bulky applications on a smaller computer means less storage space and less processor requirements to complete complex jobs that larger machines are used to complete today.

A deeper look at how the system works is that, the AI would essentially network between each other in the various body cams the same a hive would operate. They would constantly be on in a camera going through a stream of images and rapidly sharing the information between databases and each network of body cams. In this case, the AI would and could capture an image that a law enforcement official might not have or alert an official of the presence of a criminal or missing person that is nearby caught by another body cam.  More importantly, the AI would constantly be updated in real-time, which means that the minute a criminal is apprehended, or a missing person is found, the image would be removed, and the databases would be instantly updated. The same scenario would take place for new criminals or new missing persons.

There are many possibilities for this new technology that it will change the face of how not only law enforcement detects criminals and missing persons, but also how computers interact. Artificial Intelligence is a technology which is rapidly gaining momentum as we integrate it into homes, smartphones, computers, and the way we live. Confirmed: iPhone 8, iWatch 3, and the secret iPhone X (10)!

After much anticipation this week, Apple has blown off the hinges with its latest Apple event which took place on September 12th, 2017. This event was one of the technology market’s major event as Apple is the leading manufacturer in cutting edge design, security, and effortless user interfaces. Since the introduction of the original iPhone by Steve Jobs over 10 years ago, Apple has made their mark on the industry and in the world to be a trend setter in the market. Apple has continued to captivate the minds and intuitively interface user and technology in a perfect blend. With releases such as the iPhone 6 Plus which gave us a glimpse into a larger hand set, and then following through with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Apple has reshaped our expectations of the company and engulfed an ever-evolving way of technological advancement from what is expected into what the mind can achieve.

This year’s Apple event had been a major buzz among Apple enthusiasts including the technology market as rumors circled about how the new iPhone 8 would look. There are always speculations that go around and many of the different enthusiasts had gone from a practical belief of what the iPhone 8 would look like into a realm of extreme possibilities. Well Apple being the show stopper as they are come on September 12th, 2017 to announce their lineup and to set the record straight. The presentation was led by Tim Cook, which is the CEO of Apple, and was assisted by Phil Schiller. In the event, they laid out the new lineup of Apple devices from the Apple TV 4K to iWatch 3, then disclosed the new iPhone 8. The big surprise to everyone was when they gave us a peek at their crown jewel that they have been working on for the past few years, which is the iPhone X (iPhone 10). This mind-blowing device is the high note that Apple closed on during their event. We at IT GURUS OF ATLANTA want to give more insight on these devices, their availability, and pricing. The first device up is the Apple TV 4k.

Apple TV 4K

The Apple TV 4K is a tv experience unlike any other. From the depth defying sound, picture quality, apps, and features, it’s clear to see that tv watching is not just tv watching with Apple. Oh, and did we forget to mention the 4k? Yes, that’s right, the Apple TV 4k allows the user to watch their movies and stream in 4K HDR. Stream and watch content from favorite providers such as Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, and more. One of the key note features which comes along with the Apple TV 4K is that it now has “Siri” integrated. Picking up the remote and speaking to Siri the same as you would on your phone just became that much simpler as this device is fully Siri AI integrated.

If this is your first Apple TV device, then let’s get into the specs of this simple, yet robust device. Well at first glance at opening the box you see it is small such as a mini desktop and then has a remote that comes along with it. Simple but intuitive is the Apple standard. Inspecting the Apple TV 4K, you will see the ports a single HDMI 2.0a, Gigabit Ethernet, and IR Receiver. The output ports allow for Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound which gives the real feel as if being a part of the program that is being viewed.  The other device next to it would be the nifty remote that you would use to speak to Siri, go to channels, open apps, and much more. The remote works on Bluetooth 4.0 technology, has a lightning connector charger, and most importantly, rechargeable batteries to ensure longevity.  The Apple TV 4K weights about 15 ounces so it is light and the remote weights about 1.59 ounces. Underneath the hood o of this device you will find Apple’s A10X chip processor which is what allows the 4K quality to be viewed.  Once the cords are properly connected, the proper input is selected on your 4K TV, then from start, you will see the difference in quality that the Apple TV 4K brings to your home or office.

Now for the next important question and that is pricing and availability. How can a person get their hands on this coveted device? Well let’s start to talk about the two different models. The first model is the 32Gig, which the only difference between this model and the other is the amount of space that can be housed. The next model is the 64Gig in the lineup which allows the maximum room for storage on the device. Pricing wise, is as follows: Apple TV 4K 32Gig – $179 and Apple TV 4K 64Gig – $199. Both devices are available for Pre-Order right now! Once ordered, the first shipments will start to be received as of September 22nd, 2017.

iWatch 3

Step aside iWatch and iWatch 2, the iWatch 3 is what everyone was amazed to see in action. When the stage was taken by Tim Cook and he announced the new features of the iWatch, the audience was amazed at all the new features. The iWatch 3 major selling point is that it is now completely independent of the phone. That is correct. The iWatch 3 is one of the very few wearable watches that has its own cellular network capabilities. This means you can leave your phone at home and still receive all your app alerts, emails, texts, and make/receive calls. The excitement doesn’t stop there as Apple spoke of “Siri” being included and the ability to stream over 40 million songs seamlessly on this device. The wireless earbuds that are an added accessory do not come with the iWatch 3, but Apple knew exactly what they were doing when they designed this device.  The iWatch 3 will set itself above the bar by not only having the cellular network included, but adding dust and water resistance to the list of features. Now swimmers can take their iWatch swimming to monitor their progress and the rest of the world can go diving into the pool without worry about getting their iWatch wet. Its water resistance level is now up to 50 meters now as opposed to previous models such as the original iWatch and iWatch 2.

 

 

As the iWatch 3 is unboxed, its first distinguishing character if getting the cellular version, the digital crown has a red dot over it. The symmetry of the watch remains the same physically and it has the same unique fit as with the other versions.  The iWatch 3 operates on the LTE network with the same connectivity and speed as a smartphone. The iWatch 3 can do noise reduction during calls, get alerts from the same apps on the phone, access to the iTunes store, and music streaming. iWatch 3 comes with WatchOS 4 that is packed with a variety of feature updates. There are four different versions of the iWatch 3, which are the iWatch 3, iWatch 3 Nike, iWatch 3 Edition, and iWatch 3 Hermes. All models come with the S3 chip which is 70% more powerful than the previous versions, 50% more power efficient, and is 85% faster when connected via Wi-Fi. Beyond just the hyped-up speed, the storage capacity has also been increased in the iWatch 3 from 8GB to 16GB allowing even more to be saved locally on the iWatch 3.  The iWatch 3 cost varies by model and size. The cost for the iWatch 3 is iWatch 3 $329 to $749, iWatch 3 Nike series $329 to $399, iWatch 3 Hermes $1,299 to $1,399, then the iWatch 3 Edition which costs $1,299The iWatch 3 pre-orders started on September 15th, 2017 and go on sale on September 22nd, 2017.

iPhone 8

The much-anticipated iPhone 8 hit the airwaves with the months of momentum packed behind it as expected by Apple. The advances in technology and design and how are Apple has managed to blend them into one device is what Apple enthusiasts have grown to want and expect from this new addition to the iPhone family.  From the exterior design, it is easy to see that the casing is in durable glass from edge to edge. This glass exterior gives the phone a slick look which allows it to deliver a smooth finish to the space grey, silver, and gold finishes. The size of the iPhone 8 comes as with previous iPhone 6 and 7, where there is the standard 4.7-inch retina display and the Plus size which comes with a 5.5-inch retina display.  The display comes with 3D touch integrated along with enhanced retina sensors to improve the visual experience of the device.  The two dual speakers at the bottom of the phone includes an upgrade that packs a deeper base feature giving more quality sound as playback or streaming is done with more precision.  The lightening connector at the bottom of the phone between the speakers has dual usage which is for charging and wired headphones to plug into as with previous models.  The home button with fingerprint ID is in the same location along with the side power, and volume buttons.  The true magic of the iPhone 8 is beneath the hood.

The True Tone display gives a rich feel for the picture and video quality. The mechanics behind the quality of imagery given by True Tone is that it has sensors that measure the amount of ambient light color and adjusts the brightness accordingly when capturing videos and pictures. Storage for the iPhone 8 has been limited to two sizes which are the 64GB and 256GB. The dust and water resistance capabilities have been enhanced to give the iPhone 8 a water resistance level of rating IP67. This means that it can be submerged in under 1 meter (about 3 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes and still function without issues.  Capturing photos and videos are impressive with a 7MP front facing camera which is complemented with a 12MP rear facing camera.  The standard iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come with digital zoom. The standard comes with 5x digital zoom and the plus comes with 10x digital zoom.  Portrait mode comes standard with the iPhone 8 Plus, but then gets an upgrade by having Portrait mode in the front facing camera with Portrait lighting. The beloved Portrait mode can now be done with light from the front or the back and in light or dark scenarios.   Video capture and playback are done in magnificent 4K at 24, 30, and now 60 fps.  The ability to take 8MP photos while capturing 4K video recordings comes as part of the iPhone 8 package for both models.

To get a true understanding of the work designed behind the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is to look at the processor. By doing a true blend of Artificial Intelligence, user interaction, speed, and efficiency, Apple’s driving force for this device is the A11 Bionic chip.  The A11 Bionic chip has a neural engine which does true machine learning. This chipset is the most powerful currently packed into a smartphone device. With this processor, it allows the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to perform 25% faster than the previous models. Multi-tasking is easily accomplished without compromising performance by the A11’s ability to access all 6 cores simultaneously.  Wireless charging has been added as an enhancement which Apple is showing that they are slowly moving away from the conventional cords that restrict use and access. The icing on this cake is iOS 11, which comes with a plethora of additions to performance, features, and updates. iOS 11 will come standard on all of Apple’s new devices and will be available for download to all Apple devices on September 19th, 2017.  Now for pricing on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 prices are 64GB $699 and 256GB $699, then the iPhone 8 Plus is 64GB $799 and 256GB $949. iPhone X (iPhone 10)

Before closing the Apple event on September 12th, 2017, Apple gave its enthusiasts a market changing introduction of their iPhone X (iPhone 10). Everyone expected that the iPhone 8 would be the star of the show and then subsequent models would follow to make the introduction of the iPhone 8 and updates that much more powerful. However, Apple had a different view in mind. To commemorate their 10th year anniversary and to give the Apple fans innovative technology, they introduced the iPhone X (iPhone 10). From the exterior to the interior, the iPhone X is unlike any other iPhone ever delivered by Apple. One of the first features to stand out about the iPhone X is that the screen goes from edge to edge, where the black spaces were for the fingerprint ID and the upper large portion for the camera and hearing have been significantly reduced to a thin strip. There is no more “home button” and the screen has jumped to a 5.8-inch super retina display. The screen size is larger than any of the iPhone Plus models. The phone comes in two colors which is space grey and silver adding feature to the durable glass which encompasses the phone completely. In terms of pixel density, the phone has 458 ppi (pixels per inch).  OLED is integrated into the super retina display of the device and is the first to be integrated with a smartphone. True Tone is included with this device as with the iPhone 8, it enhances the picture taking experience and allows the viewer to engage with the images or videos on a more realistic level.

“Siri” can be engaged by the usual “Hey Siri”, but if there is no home button, then Siri can be launched by the new feature of the right-side button.  The iPhone X comes with what Apple has dubbed “Face ID”. Facial recognition is included with the iPhone X allowing it to give the security features of facial recognition that is required. The facial recognition feature is so advanced that it will not unlock the phone unless the phone is looked at by the user.  The thin strip at the top of the display is where the technology resides. In the thin strip at the top of iPhone X is located the Infrared Camera, Flood Illuminator, Front Camera, Dot Projector, Proximity Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Speaker, and Microphone. All these features work together to determine the size, depth, and characteristics to create a mathematical model to determine if there is a match for the face ID originally created by the owner of the device.  Even if there are changes to the user such as changing hairstyles, adding accessories, aging, or even adding facial hair, Face ID can depict the owner of the device and if there is a match. All processes are done on the device and not sent to a server as with other facial recognition software. The statistics revealed by Apple is that only 1 in 1,000,000 can ever unlock the device with similar facial features.

iPhone X comes dust and water resistant with the same level of resistance that the iPhone 8 has of IP67. Wireless charging is integrated as part of the features added which is why the durable glass encases the device from edge to edge. No more need for conventional chargers or carrying multiple chargers for all your Apple devices.  Portrait mode is integrated with the camera allowing selfies to be taken with the professional sharp look that users of the iPhone Plus have grown fond of.  No longer having to only take Portrait images in lighted areas only, because there is a new Portrait Lighting feature that is supported by the TrueDepth camera included with this device. The back camera is 12MP and the front facing camera receives the upgrade of 7MP.  The digital and optical zoom is up to 10x. Taking videos are all in 4K giving the record and playback features impeccable quality at 60fps.

The true genius behind the iPhone X is derived from the A11 Bionic chip which has a total of 6 cores. Two of the cores are the major processors and the other four load balance for the primary processors making multi-tasking effortless.  The A11 chip is integrated with machine learning allowing for an advanced user experience as it learns the habits, voice, and facial features of the owner.  The iPhone X comes with iOS 11 as part of its standard package allowing the new OS to fit this device perfectly.  The battery life for the iPhone X has been upgraded to 21hrs of talk time, 12hrs of internet surfing, 13hrs of video playback, 60hrs of audio playback, and up to 50% faster charge than the previous models.

Now for pricing and availability of this new this device. The iPhone X comes in the same capacity as the iPhone 8 which is 64GB and 256GB. The pricing for the iPhone X is $999 for the 64GB and $1,149 for the 256GB. Apple is accepting Pre-orders for the iPhone X on October 27th, 2017 and the first shipments will start to be received 3rd of November 2017. China now using Face-Recognition software to grant access to facilities and Track criminals

Companies like Face++ are changing the landscape in China when it comes to technology and utilizing facial-recognition software. The company is a startup company, but is already valued at over a billion dollars. Face++ is using its investments in order to diversify and integrate facial-recognition software into critical security systems.

The software updates done by Face++ are cutting edge which allows devices to track 83 facial points at the same time, and from multiple angles to give recognition ability which is like no other.  The updates that Face++ has been giving facial-recognition is already being integrated in many popular applications such as Alipay and Didi. Both applications are major applications in China that are used to make mobile payments and get rides like Uber has done in the US. The Didi app allows users to double check the driver that is coming by making them move their heads and use speech recognition that no one can substitute the driver or use a photo. Payments via the Alipay app allows users to use face and voice combinations in order to complete payments.

 

The Chinese government has already invested using Face++ facial-recognition software to tap into surveillance being done on criminals by tapping into their centralized ID databases and cameras to quickly apprehend and document activity by known criminals. Even though the mugshots and the images obtained from cameras are not all the time accurate, it gives a percentage possibility of that person being the person of interest and narrows down the possibility of monitoring or apprehending the wrong suspect. Utilizing cameras and face-recognition is definitely ahead of its time and is geared to change not only the Chinese government’s methods of fighting crime, but will soon spread to other countries as it gains more popularity in the security front.
