Microsoft Breaking Barriers – Internet Without Wifi – Greater Distance and same High Speed!

Saturday, August 5th, 2017

Many people these days don’t go running towards Wifi unless they are still using regular phone plans to where they have a limited amount of data and have to connect to Wifi. With cell phone plans now going with “Unlimited” data, cable providers giving greater data usage to their customers, and “free” hotspots popping up in most public places, it is clear the data usage war is going to Unlimited access.  Most carriers are offering greater service areas and even more service quality as the ways to capture and keep customers. Outside of using your cell phone’s unlimited access which slows down after a certain amount of data is consumed, the “home”, “work”, or “public” wifi is the next best option to get work done on your computer and stay connected.

Most people when disconnecting from their wifi tend to try to get as much done and downloaded as possible in order to rely lightly on the cell phone data usage.  This is typical due to the lack of range for wifi signals inbetween locations such as work to home, home to public places, etc. In between location A and location B, there is a limitation of range for the wifi signal to travel. Most people are thinking that cell phone signals with their hotspots can make up for the disadvantage. Well even in that aspect, there are cell phone towers which are either not close enough or are not in existence that allow cell phone coverage to be choppy in certain areas or slow in connection speed.  Its always a rule of thumb that people in the city get more coverage with both their wifi signal and their cell phone signal. Rural areas tend to suffer are subject to satellite wifi or cell phone hotspots as coverage is limited outside cities.

Well Microsoft has an answer which could change the way how people receive their data stream by increasing coverage while maintaining speed. Microsoft has been testing the usage of tv signals in order to spread wifi signals. This plan would get rid of cables and introduce a truly wireless network that would travel to the farthest reaches of the continent without building extra towers or harnessing an overload on current towers. This plan uses what is called “white space” television bandwidth. In case you are wondering what is “white space”, well we have you covered.  White space are what tv networks had created years ago which operate below 700 Mhz. These white spaces serve as a buffer between the high traffic channels to give them the extra bandwidth to communicate on.  To expound upon the reach, these bands can stretch over 6 miles away and are not altered or disrupted by buildings or vegetation.

Microsoft has been promoting this technology for years and conducting tests in the Philippines, England, Colombia, and Kenya. By 2018 Microsoft is driving to have the project launched within 12 states. The end goal of the project is to extend this feature in 12 states across the US and connect over 2 million Americans in rural areas by July 4th, 2022.  Microsoft estimates that the project will take between 10-15 billion in order to extend the reach to all of rural America.

Even though the project deems to show endless possibilities, there are sceptics that believe the interference of  the “white air” will affect television networks from broadcasting by clogging their network.  Surprisingly enough Microsoft asked the FCC to use this spectrum back in 2010, but have not pressed forward with advancing the space or technology until now. Microsoft has beefed up its campaigns by now advertising in rural parts of Virginia and allowing them to connect via white space internet in 1,000 homes. This technology is proving to be cutting edge and will clearly blur the lines of “digital divide” and change the way how people use and interact with the internet by giving more access. Stay tuned as this white space internet will be expanding and coming to a location near you!

Futuristic Transportation Already Testing – Hyperloop One is making Leaps of Speed!

Friday, August 4th, 2017

Nowadays the most common forms of transportation are cars, buses, trains, airplanes, and even boats. We tend to know the safety, reliability, and efficiency of using these vessels. They have been a part of society for many, many years. By using these vessels, we have learned to deal with traffic that causes delays in motor vehicle transportation, airplanes that get delayed for various unforeseen reasons, and boats that also run late due to inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances. We have begun to understand and compromise in order to accommodate life’s unknowns that tend to come up.

What if there was another method of transportation that could transport passengers almost as fast as an airplane without hesitation due to the weather or delayed due to traffic? Would you be willing to try it out and make it a part of your daily transportation routine? Well, the people at Hyperloop One believe they have the answer and they have been testing their resolve with the testing of Hyperloop One.

Many people wonder what consists of a Hyperloop.  Well it’s an environmentally friendly and efficient new way of transportation.  Many depictions of a hyperloop were in James Bond “The Living Daylights” and “The Polar Express”. Now the dream of the Hyperloop has been brought to life by a company called by the same name “Hyperloop One”. Hyperloop One has begun testing their version of the Hyperloop in Nevada, just north of Las Vegas. Hyperloop One is now on it’s way to getting this new mode of transportation on the market as soon as they can complete their testing to show its ability to not only transport safely, but also faster than any other mode of transportation and equal to that of an airplane, but without the high altitudes.

Hyperloop One anticipates at the peak of the Hyperloop introduction into society, they are anticipating speeds at the speed of sound or 750 miles per hour. The two tests in the desert showed promising. The first test conducted showed the pod tapping out at 2Gs of acceleration and a top speed of 70 Mph. The second test, the company published a video showing the pod tapping out at 192 Mph to give an idea of the direction it is heading towards getting faster and faster in its journey towards the speed of sound.

The mechanics behind the Hyperloop is the Hyperloop One is composed of a 1 passenger pod, which is 28 feet that is composed of aluminum and fiber for its outer shell. The pod was able to reach the top speed of 192 miles per hour in a mere 5 seconds and covering 300 feet before slowing down. Hyperloop one is powered by an electric propulsion system. The pod is pulled along a low-pressure tube by magnetic accelerators which push the pod along the tubes. This system gives the pod its ability to move quickly and slow down equally the same. To deal with air pressure buildup in the front of the pod, the team of Hyperloop One has added air compressors at the front of the pod which moves the air to the rear, while helping to keep the pod aloft by using the air displacement. This new technology could turn a 6 hr trip into a 35 min ride in the Hyperloop.

This new mode of transportation is more efficient than conventional rails, water, air, and roads that the world has grown accustomed to using. More overly it is environmentally friendly with zero emissions, faster, and does not use any oil that we are so heavily dependent on currently.  On top of using electric power, the Hyperloop would also be equipped with solar panels which will distribute solar energy making it a low electric energy consumer.

HOLLIDAY ROBOT ASSISTANCE IS ON THE WAY!!

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

Nestle Robot 3

Holiday shopping can be viewed as a pain with long waiting lines and very little help from store staff because they are busy with other customers that have arrived before you did. That personal touch or that one on one approach that stores try to give throughout the year is very difficult to give when there is an influx of customers that are in a rush and need assistance. Most times there are more customers than there is staff to assist. That alone makes people think twice about heading out to shop just to avoid the frustration.

Nestle Robot 2

Well your holiday cries have been heard and two companies are now stepping out the box to make your assistance while shopping that much easier. The solution is ask has been answered in from of robots. Yes, that is right, robots is the answer to getting the immediate assistance that you need to find an item or an opinion about products. Lowes and Nestle are now testing the possibilities and restraints of having a robotic assistant to help with the holiday rush and throughout the coming year of 2015.

Nestle RobotThe first major giant to make the leap is Nestle in Japan which will add a reported 1,000 robots to their workforce, which will assist in selling their coffee and espressos. The robot’s name is Pepper and they will be added in December of 2014. Pepper is reported to be an emotional robot which means that it is capable of carrying on conversations with consumers that are interested in the products being offered. Pepper which is made by Aldebaran which is owned by SoftBank, is expected to expand past the commercial market and into being made for personal use. Their next step is to try to infiltrate the US markets.

The second major giant to make this step into robotic assistance during the holidays is a US based company. This company is Lowes. Lowes is piloting a robot assistance currently in one of their California stores. The robot is made by Fellow Robots and is able to recognize voices, identify hardware, and navigate aisles. The subsidiary store that Lowes is currently piloting the robot is Orchard Supply Hardware in San Jose.OSHbot 3

So if you are in the San Jose, California area or happen to visit a Nestle store in Japan, your holiday shopping experience will be a lot faster and very different.

First Flying Car? Myth or Truth? AeroMobil 3.0 says Truth!

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014

AeroMobil 1

Flying cars? Ok, so who has been watching too many “Back To The Future” reruns?  Yes, flying cars is no longer a mystery or something thought up in some sci-fi film. Flying cars are finally here. The latest introduction of the AeroMobil 3.0 seems to be the trendsetting leader with seamless integration between road and air. This vehicle is changing the way how manufacturers and aeronautics look at the coalition of flying your car to your destination or driving to complete your journey without any wait or excessive plane fares.

AeroMobil 2

Who said that traffic jams don’t have a solution? Not more roads is the solution, but taking your car to the air and flying to your destination. Although the AeroMobile 3.0 only fits two people at a time, what it lacks in passenger capacity, it makes up for in specs and usability.   When the AeroMobil 3.0 is in car mode, it can top off at 100mph.  As a an airplane, the vehicle can get to top speeds of 124mph.  As far as economizing, the vehicle has a traveling distance of up to 540 miles when driving.  The wing span is 27 feet and is 19.7 feet in length.

The company states that it is gearing sales mainly towards developing markets which may not have much roads, highways, or airports as part of their infrastructure.   Even though its maiden flight made the Vienna Pioneers Festival in Austria a buzz, it is not yet ready for full blown production.  However, once it is ready for production, the only thing a person needs is $200,000-$300,000 plus a pilot’s license. Once those key requirements are in order, then you can be first in line to receive your own AeroMobil 3.0.

FDA Approves the First Personal Exoskeleton Created by ReWalk Robotics

001a

The ReWalk is a personal motorized exoskeleton, designed to help paralyzed people walk again, is the first device of its kind to earn U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval.

The ReWalk created by ReWalk Robotics (formerly Argo Medical Technologies), was designed help certain persons with spinal-cord injuries, such as paraplegia. It straps on to the user’s bodies and helps the user to sit, stand, and walk. Users have to wear a backpack to carry the ReWalk’s batteries and computer that controls the whole apparatus.

The computer controls a motor that is located at each hip, knee, and ankle joint. The articulating sections on the legs are stabilized by the additional straps around the midsection, which are also connected to a backpack

They also have to wear a wireless wrist device with buttons to tell the motorized legs when to stand up, sit down, or start walking. The device also responds to movements of the user’s torso, so that leaning forward triggers a step.

Hologram projecting phones will be here by 2015

Hologram projecting phones will be here by 2015

002a

Ostendo Technologies of Carlsbad, California, has created a hologram with its 5,000ppi projectors chips that will display 2D & 3D images and will be available by the summer of 2015.

Ostendo estimates that the chip and projector called the Quantum Photonic Imager will add a cost of about $30 more to the price of a smart watch or phone or tablet devices.

The hologram is created using six projectors that layer light to create an image floating in the air and will look like a “Real” solid object.

The Quantum Photonic Imager has come from fusing an image processor with a wafer of micro LEDs. The end result is a projector that’s about the size of a Tic Tac powered by the chip which controls the colour, brightness and angle of each beam of light.

The holographic projector prototype, as demoed to The Wall Street Journal, displayed a virtual pair of floating 3D dicespinning around in the air which looked solid from all viewing angles.
Ostendo is aiming to make the pixels even smaller to achieve much higher resolutions and it will also be increasing the size so 3D holographic projections can even appear from our TVs.

You won’t have to pump your own gas in the near future, the Robotic Gas Pumps Are Coming

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

robot-pumps-gas-299x224Husky Corporation and Husky and Fuelmatics, plans to introduce robotic gas pumps in St. Louis, which would do all the work for drivers, should be ready for regulatory testing in approximately nine months.

These robotic gas pumps will function with the aid of infrared lights and cameras that will be used to locate the fuel door, an arm with a suction cup will open the fuel door, and then a nozzle will then extend into the fuel tank and releases the desired amount and type of fuel that the drive via a touch screen system and payment made by swiping a credit, cash or gas card. Once the tank is full, the nozzle returns to the pump.

The pumps were developed in cooperation with Swedish company Fuelmatics Systems and are expected to cost about $50,000 each. For what it’s worth, there are already functioning robotic pumps in the Netherlands.
